Proposed content of the reports:
In order to facilitate the analysis of the reports, we suggest you adopt the following structure:

1. Vision, mission, values & principles
Are the principles of globally responsible leadership incorporated into the mission, goals and values of the learning institution?

2. Policies and procedures
Does the learning institution have policies and procedures in place to build and to reinforce the principles of globally responsible leadership (i.e. a clear “code of conduct” for faculty, students and staff)?
Does the learning institution provide a structural mechanism whereby globally responsible leadership can become a focal point for interdisciplinary teaching and research?
How does the learning institution involve its different stakeholders in the definition of its priorities, the implementation of its actions and the evaluation of its results?

3. Curriculum and pedagogy
Are there special programs dedicated to global responsibility?
Are there special courses dedicated to global responsibility in the main programs?
Are there any efforts to introduce global responsibility in all disciplines?
What efforts are done to enable or to train the professors to integrate these issues?
Does the learning institution use special pedagogic forms in the field of global responsibility to enable the students to commit to ethical principles and apply them under conditions of complexity, uncertainty and even disagreement about basic values in a multi-cultural context?

Accordingly, a program that seeks to promote GRL would be guided by pedagogical principles such as the need:

  1. to involve the whole person;
  2. to have a holistic vision based on a systems perspective;
  3. to  understand and commit to individual and organizational responsibilities;
  4. to be guided by sound, yet adaptable, ethical principles;
  5. to learn to engage relevant (key) stakeholders in dialogue;
  6. to benefit from first-hand experiences about the social and environmental consequences of business decisions;
  7. to benefit from learning approaches based on thinking, feeling and doing;
  8. to benefit from regular feedback from both teachers and peers on multiple dimensions.

4. Research
Are there special research centers dedicated to global responsibility?
What are their main publications?
Do they have partnerships with companies or other stakeholders?
Do they do research for public institutions?
Are there any efforts to introduce global responsibility in all research programs?

5. Implementing responsible practices
What are the learning institution’s goals, actions, results and projects to reduce its negative impact and to improve its positive impact on:

  • 5.1. The natural environment
  • 5.2. The employees
  • 5.3. The community

This chapter may also contain the activities of students’ clubs towards these different stakeholders.

6. Partnerships and networks
What is the nature of the partnership with the corporate partner in the GRLI?  What has been achieved so far, and with what impact?  What are the lessons learned? What are the plans for the future?

Is the learning institution member of networks in the field of global responsibility?
What is the impact of such memberships on the policies in the field of global responsibility?

report update here

After a first analysis of reports sent by GRLI academic members, a second draft of the reporting format was prepared and sent to the members of the working group. The new format aims at clarifying the parts of the report, to highlight the initiatives taken together with corporate partners and the GRLI and to encourage corporate members to contribute to the reports.
The new format will be discussed at the GRLI GA in Canada and then circulated among all members.
