Description: Dissertation Proposal Competition The Globally Responsible Leadership Initiative (GRLI), is hosting a dissertation proposal competition. The objective of the competition is to recognize and award Ph.D. candidates whose research will further our understanding of the Globally Responsible Leadership by individuals or firms. Candidates in all business disciplines—including accounting, finance, management and marketing—as well as other disciplines that speak to business issues, such as social psychology and sociology, are invited to submit proposals. The range of topics to be considered is broad, including but not limited to: relationships between corporate social responsibility and firm profitability, measures of globally responsible conduct, the connection between social responsiveness and corporate structure, ethical leadership, mainstreaming ethics and social responsibility within the firm, the international dimensions of ethics, the characteristics of leaders who have initiated globally responsible projects, privacy issues within the information systems sector, environmental policies or actions, empowerment of labour, reward systems which integrate metrics for global social responsibility, engagement of key stakeholders, the power of institutions to influence business conduct, management of conflicts of interests between home country and country of operations, the critical examination of the definition, role and responsibility of business, or the development of theories which address business and society issues.
Proposals will be blind reviewed by a panel consisting of both academics and business practitioners and judged on the contribution that they make to the understanding and practice of issues associated with global responsibility and leadership in business as well as on their scholarly, theoretical and methodological rigor. Winners will be provided assistance in finding research sites for data collection among our member firms, given a research stipend of $xxxxx, and provided funding to attend one of the two bi-annual meetings of the GRLI.
